The Windhager story

From a small fitter's shop to an international enterprise

Windhager's 100-year company history is set apart by its progress and innovation. The small fitter's shop founded in 1921 has developed into a leading international company in the heating industry. The traditional Salzburg company looks back with pride on an extraordinary journey through time – always distinguished by people who ensure the high quality standards by putting passion & soul into their daily work. For over 100 years, perfect "Made in Austria” quality, a pronounced spirit of innovation, and consistent customer focus have been the trademarks of Windhager. Steady progress and growth – the founding of subsidiaries in Switzerland in the 1980s and shortly thereafter in Germany represent major milestones in the company's history. Today, with approximately 500 employees, the company is one of Austria's most successful boiler manufacturers.

1939 - 1941

In 1955, the company already had 77 employees. At this time, mainly electric and gas stoves were manufactured for outside companies.
1969
Company founder Anton Windhager passes away at the age of 74. Werner Windhager takes over management of the company. During this time, Windhager began its first advertising activities.
1980 - 1989
Windhager conquers market leadership in Austria with a modular system for oil and solid fuel boilers. In the mid-1980s, subsidiaries were founded in Switzerland and Germany.
2002 - 2006
The broad modernisation of the production facilities creates one of the largest and most modern production lines for biomass boilers in Europe. Visually, too, a new design line was started.
2014 - 2019
The company headquarters in Seekirchen were rebuilt and a 600 m² interactive Heating Experience World was created. The plant in Zaisberg became the new manufacturing centre, including production of the revolutionary PuroWIN wood chip boiler.

1960 - 1968
In the 60s, Windhager began to produce stoves under its own name. The company's own enamelling plant including assembly hall was built, and a new press shop and a coil coating line were put into operation.
1970 - 1979
As of 1970, the company produced 51,868 oil furnaces and 2,549 central heating stoves. Windhager began the in-house production of self-developed cellar boilers. By this time the company had 171 employees.
1990 - 1999
In 1994 the company was certified to ISO 9001. In 1999, Windhager was the first manufacturer to introduce the 5-year full guarantee and launched the first PMX pellet boiler, developed in-house.
